Dr. David Chelmow, the Leo J. Dunn professor of obstetrics and gynecology, interim dean at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and interim executive vice president for medical affairs at VCU Health, has been appointed to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (Task Force). 

“Our team at VCU Health and VCU Health Sciences congratulates Dr. Chelmow on accepting the call to serve our nation as a member of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force,” said Dr. Art Kellermann, senior vice president for VCU Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System. “His widely-recognized expertise in obstetrics and gynecology, and his career-long commitment to evidence-based preventive care, will serve the Task Force and America well.”

The Task Force is an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. Members come from primary care and prevention-related fields, including internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, obstetrics and gynecology and nursing. Members are appointed to four-year terms.

“On behalf of my fellow Task Force members, I am happy to welcome Dr. Chelmow,” said Task Force Chair Karina W. Davidson, Ph.D. “His extensive knowledge in women’s health and his expertise in developing evidence-based guidelines will be valuable contributions to the Task Force.”

In addition to his roles at VCU School of Medicine, Dr. Chelmow currently serves as interim executive vice president for medical affairs at VCU Health, where he directed obstetric and gynecological clinical services at VCU Health as chair for more than a decade before assuming his interim roles this month. As a provider at VCU Health, Dr. Chelmow provides the full spectrum of inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care, including labor and delivery, and sees patients in the outpatient setting. Dr. Chelmow’s research focuses on evidence-based medicine and women’s health guideline development.
